Nurse Betty BScN (cand): EEEEEEEEEEEEEK - and no I didn't just see a mouse

Nurse Betty BScN (cand)

I am a 36 year old mother of 2. I entered university in 2005 for the BScN program but had no idea what a roller coaster ride it would be. My other interests are boating, cottaging, gardening, sitting, doing nothing, vegging and of course hard core belly button contemplating.

EEEEEEEEEEEEEK - and no I didn't just see a mouse

The cause of such a hair raising screech is the realisation that I am going back to school (again). It seemed like so long ago that first year ended. I swear I don't remember ANYTHING! I am terrified that they think I know all that stuff. Today is the orientation session. I will be meeting friends for sushi beforehand and they will all be so calm and cool because they remember everything where I will be shitting bricks because I don't remember my student number much less how to assess a patient for dementia. Sometimes when I think about this sort of feeling I understand the logic behind the programs that go straight through without summer vacations. I would imagine that the loss of knowledge is diminished for those students. But then again I don't think I could cope not having my time at the cottage. Oh the quandry.
So I am hoping for any suggestions into how to cram the information of first year into my noggin between now and oh lets say, Tuesday. Oh and did I mention that Labour Day Weekend is one of the biggest family events of the year!!! so I doubt that there will be too much reading going on this weekend. I know I need to prioritize.

It's hard. I'm still on summer mind set and have barely cracked a book. I've worked really hard in classes, but still am doing nothing at home. That's going to change AS OF TODAY!!! Seriously...I mean it...really...honest. This is my last long run. I don't have a break until graduation next December, so hopefully, it's going to all stick in my head. What I lost over the summer are terms and drugs, but when I get crackin', I'm going to reread that stuff. Seriously, honest, I mean it. I'm not kidding.

You aren't the only one panicking!! I am in my last semester, and we only have two tests... anything we learned in nursing school is fair game... and in my head I am just praying to pass!

Even if you do go through summer classes, you still forget. The mind can only hold so much, and keep it in the forefront. Unless you are actually applying the information, the brain just pushes it to the back of the closet.

Like I have forgetten some of the basics, because I have not been using them. However, now that I am needing it again, it is quickly coming back.

Word of advice...try to keep the information fresh by reading up on things you've already learned or perusing notes once in a while. Then it is even better ingrained into your memory.

You guys are the greatest pals a gal could have, your words of advice as well as empathy have really helped me to relax. I just often wonder if I am the only one in the room who doesn't have a clue what the instructor is talking about.

EEEEEEEEEEK indeed! I go back to school the last week of September and I also fear I have forgotten everything I learned last term. If you figure out a quick memory-reset method, please share it with me!
